Book Review: Scarred by Elizabeth Montgomery

Title: Scarred Author: Elizabeth Montgomery Publisher: Crushing Heart and Black Butterfly Publish Date: June 26, 2015 Goodreads Amazon I read the description of this book and knew I would HAVE to read it. I was not disappointed! I was immediately sucked in to Avery's character. I loved her from the very first paragraph. She was so sweet and vulnerable, but had found a way to fight against the chaos in her life. Having been ridiculed as a child bc I wore glasses, I understand this, but the level that Avery has to deal with is beyond my comprehension. My heart went out to her and I wanted to slay demons with her, but she has a good network with her mother and her best friend, who chose her early on. Avery is constantly berated for her scar that she wears on her face and there is one person in particular who is relentless. One day someone in her life steps out of character and speaks to her. She has no idea if it is a ruse or real. How do you put faith in someone who has stood by and ...

Book Review: Z Chronicles by Ann Christy

Title: The Z Chronicles Author: multiple authors Publisher: Windrift Books Publish Date: June 15, 2015 400 pages, ebook GoodReads Amazon If you have followed my blog you know I am a HUGE FANGIRL of Ann Christy and I was so lucky to meet and speak with her in person at the recent UtopyaCon (now Utopia). She is an amazing writer and I just love reading her books like Strikers . So knowing she was one of the authors on this anthology of zombie stories, I knew I would love them Ann Christy's short story in Z Chronicles starts out like a normal end of the world story. There are people who have survived the zombie apocalypse as they have paid to get into a very prestigious biosphere-like arena. She explains the established criterion and how the classes are maintained within the walls. She goes on to say that some people have gotten a better deal than other. The ending is so sick and twisted that I actually found myself laughing and thinking, "good job Ann Christy!" I did not e...

Book Review: I, Zombie by Jo Michaels

Title: I, Zombie Author: Jo Michaels Publisher: Jo Michaels Publish Date: Jan 8 2014 300 pages, ebook Goodreads Amazon This is the perfect kind of zombie book I want to read. It is light, fun, sad, happy, gross but not totally off the cuff gag me and still has life (pun intended). I, Zombie was actually believable which I always look for in a book. If I am going through my day and expect to see the characters come around the corner, this is a good book. I completely got sucked in and read this book in a day. A DAY! This is a good book. I wanted to call in sick to work just to finish it. Thankfully that was unnecessary. Trixie was a sweet, funny, smart and lovable character who is lucky to have the life family and friends she does, but she does not take it for granted. She uses this to her advantage and keeps them in contact, takes their advice and tries to listen to her heart. Jo takes through the pain of Trixie eating her dog (no spoilers, it is in the description) and then having to ...

UtopyaCon 2015 hangover

I am EXHAUSTED! But so inspired and so ready to get my sh*t together. This is ALL bc of the wonderful people at Utopya that I met, spent time with, talked to, listened to, got autographys from, shared a room with, danced and sang with, got on stage with, got Pitched Slapped by and pitched a few ourselves. Seriously the most amazing place I have been truly bc the people that attended were amazing. They are totally my people. I fit in! From a life of trying to feel like I belonged, and yes, if you know me, you know I am not a shy person, but deep down that kid who was ostracized, made fun of, told I was not good enough, not pretty enough, not smart enough. It has taken a long time in life to find my comfortable place, but that inner nerd still gets scared. No matter how many trade shows, networking meetings, lunches, etc., I go to I still get scared, nervous and worried I will be struck down. At Utopya 2015, I was embraced by each and every person; author, blogger, reader, friend, family...

The Avengers Movie

I don't remember ever going to a Midnight showing of a movie before. As a child, I was too busy swimming to actually think about doing things that took me off my schedule. As an adult, it just never seemed important enough. I always knew I could go to the movie later in the week and without all those people. However, we put together a small group to go see Avengers. I still almost backed out. I am just not a late night person and I have been exhausted this week. Truly squeezed dry. Got there almost two hours before the movie started. Two hours! And the line was already wrapped a few times around the movie theater. We were lucky though because one of the people in our group had cousins who had been there since 4pm. FOUR! That's six hours waiting in line. We gathered together hanging out in this enormous crowd of people. The occasional eruption of screams due to costumed people and recognition of friends arriving. And there were a lot of costumes. Grown men and women wearing The ...

August Wrap-Up & September TBR

So August has been my best reading month so far. Not nearly close to where my reading is usually at, but its getting back there. I did enjoy most of the books I read this month. So that's some good news. Books I Read In August: Library of Souls (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #3) by Ransom Riggs (5/5 Stars) A Map of Days (Miss Peregrine's Peculiar Children #4) by Ransom Riggs (5/5 Stars) The Deceivers (Vale Hall #1) by Kristen Simmons (5/5 Stars)   I finally got caught up on the Miss Peregrine's series! And I really enjoyed books 3 and 4 more than the first two. I don't know what it was, but I was just super in the mood for them and really enjoyed them. I also finally read one of my ARCs. Guys, you know how far behind I am. So this is a good thing. Lol.  Night of Cake & Puppets (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #2.5) by Laini Taylor (4.5/5 Stars) Red Rising (Red Rising #1) by Pierce Brown (5/5 Stars) Heart of Iron (Heart of Iron #1) by Ashley Poston (DNF) I...

Wordless Wednesday - Claire Thomas from Food for Thought

I got this recipe from Claire Thomas who hosts the TV Show Food for Thought . She is the cutest, sweetest and so far my favorite tv chef. Her recipes are so easy and she seems to have a talent for making every recipe seem doable. I actually set my alarm on Saturday mornings to get up in time to see her show (when I am not working). This past week, she featured her Australian Pasta which you should really visit her blog and read the back story to why it is named this. Funny!! I also got a wild hair and decided to make her Cream Scones . Here is the pasta sauce while it is simmering. Here is the final dish. Australian Pasta with strawberries (just finished cutting them for the week's snacks, so I threw a few in) and her scones (bc I didn't make bread). Also, Claire if you are reading this, QUESTION - On your blog recipe, you didn't specify searing the sausage and taking them out of the pan while the onions and garlic cook. But in your show, I distinctly remember you keeping t...
