The Secret

Cover Reveal: Untaken

Untaken, by J. E. Anckorn
Genre: young-adult, action-adventure, science-fiction
Publisher: Curiosity Quills Press
Date of Publication:October 16th, 2014
Cover Artist: Amy Chitulescu (http://ameliethe.deviantart.com/)
Description:
It turns out that a real alien invasion is nothing like the Sci-fi shows 14-year-old Gracie loves. Not when it’s your own family who are swallowed whole by those big silver ships. Not if it could be you next.
In her search for her family, Gracie meets Brandon, a high school dropout who would never have been caught dead hanging out with a dork like Gracie before the world ended. Gracie isn’t too crazy about Brandon either, but he has one thing she doesn’t: A plan.
Brandon’s uncle has a cabin up in Maine, and If Gracie and Brandon can survive long enough to get there they can hide out until the Space Men pack up their ships and leave.
Until the army guys come to rescue them, says Brandon.
Brandon is big into army guys.
Gracie has to admit that Brandon’s Awesome Plan probably would have worked out great if wasn't for Jake.
They found 5-year-old Jake, laying half-dead under the remains of someone’s ranch house. He’s a good kid, even if he won’t-or can’t- talk.
But Jake has a secret, and when Gracie finds out what it is, the fragile new life they’ve started to forge looks set to break apart.
When the people you’ve been counting on to put the world back together start hunting you down, alien invaders are the least of your worries.
About The Author:
J. E. Anckorn has been an artist and writer ever since she began to surreptitiously doodle on school supplies instead of learning about practical things, like osmosis and mathematics.
After barely surviving a freak mathematical osmosis disaster, she set out to travel the world, living in New Zealand, Australia and Hong Kong before returning to her native Britain- just in time to marry an American and leave for the U.S.A. She still failed to learn anything about osmosis, but did manage to cultivate an accent that is unintelligible to almost everyone. (It happened through a mysterious net movement of information from the outside environment into her brain. If only there was a word for that!)
This led to her development of a new language, based almost entirely on polite yet uncomprehending nods. In between these adventures, she has worked as a toy designer, copywriter, and freelance illustrator. She lives in Boston, with a small grumpy dog, and a large, slightly less grumpy husband.

Wordless Wednesday - Claire Thomas from Food for Thought

I got this recipe from Claire Thomas who hosts the TV Show Food for Thought . She is the cutest, sweetest and so far my favorite tv chef. Her recipes are so easy and she seems to have a talent for making every recipe seem doable. I actually set my alarm on Saturday mornings to get up in time to see her show (when I am not working). This past week, she featured her Australian Pasta which you should really visit her blog and read the back story to why it is named this. Funny!! I also got a wild hair and decided to make her Cream Scones . Here is the pasta sauce while it is simmering. Here is the final dish. Australian Pasta with strawberries (just finished cutting them for the week's snacks, so I threw a few in) and her scones (bc I didn't make bread). Also, Claire if you are reading this, QUESTION - On your blog recipe, you didn't specify searing the sausage and taking them out of the pan while the onions and garlic cook. But in your show, I distinctly remember you keeping t...

90% Raw

I have been working on going raw for over a week now. Seems minimal, but I feel pretty good. So far. I did experience a HUGE day of food withdrawal. Sadly it was at work. LOL My poor boss. I lost it before lunch knowing I was going to have to eat my healthy lunch and all I wanted was crap. It was horrible. I was literally nuts for 20 minutes. Him pushing me to eat crap is what helped me choose to eat my healthy lunch. Ironic, huh? About two hours later, I felt the relief of normal again . (well semi-normal) So far I have struggled the most with making my lunch for work. I have to start making it the night before because I keep hitting snooze til I am running late. Damn. I have to get to sleep earlier. I am trying to leave leftovers in an easy to sort out container that I can just grab and go. My favorite part is grocery shopping. lol And enjoying my meals once I sit down. I am realizing that I am eating much slower and really tasting my food. I still read while I eat, but I notice I am...

Review - Crushed by KC Blake

Title: Crushed The Witch-Game #1 Author: K.C. Blake Publisher: Createspace Publish Date: July 30, 2011 Paperback, 262 pages GoodReads Barnes and Noble (Nookbook $2.99) Amazon I wasn't sure what to expect with this book, but it was on sale, it had some pretty good reviews amongst the blog world, so I thought I'd give it a go. Oddly enough, it was lots of fun. I really enjoyed it. These girls have a game they play every year. They pick boys that they can "crush" which equates to blowing witch dust on them and controlling them. They make fun of them, they play tricks on them and basically make them their slaves. It is cruel, but they don't seem to realize. Until they crush the wrong guy. Zach is a boy with special powers as well. But how long will Kristen try to play with him before he unleashes his fury? Summary - The Noah sisters rule Titan High with their beauty, brains, and magical powers. Each year they play a secret game: Crushed. The girls pick their ...
