The Three Dark Crowns Series by Kendare Blake:
I think this is perfect for this month. Like the titles state, this series is a bit dark. I was a bit surprised going into it how dark some part were. However, its a really good story. I'm actually reading One Dark Throne and Two Dark Reigns this month for my themed reads. And if you need some convincing to check these out, go check out Feed Your Fiction Addiction. Nicole loves this series and has some great posts about it! :)
The Charlotte Holmes Series by Brittany Cavallaro:
So despite that these covers look fun and contemporary, these are actually mystery novels. Our main characters are descendants of the Holmes and Watson families. And they team up to solve crimes (usually that they are being framed for). Its fantastic! Charlotte definitely has the demeanor of a Holmes and its just so much fun to follow along and see her reason things out. Definitely a fun read for October.
The Stalking Jack The Ripper Series by Kerri Maniscalco:
This is another set of mystery novels. These ones are set around solving murders and our main characters not becoming victims themselves. And they take place in the late 1800's. So there's a whole other topic of keeping in line with the etiquette from that time period as well. I love it because our main character Audrey Rose is looked at as not proper because of her fascination with crimes and dead bodies. It's fantastic!
The Surviving The Evacuation Series by Frank Tayell:
This is actually currently a 15 book series. I've only got 3 books in so far but I love this. Zombie Outbreak. Takes place in the UK, not the US. Sorry, but most Zombie novels take place in the US so it's a very refreshing change of landscape. And it's an adult series. So our main character isn't fresh out of high school making bad decisions. Don't get me wrong, I love my YA, but teens don't make the best decisions in the zombie apocalypse. Lol. And bonus, the first book, London, is free for kindle! So you can give it a try without spending money. And if you like it, the next books are pretty inexpensive! :)
The Rot & Ruin Series by Jonathan Maberry:
So this series pretty much starts as the Young Adult equivalent of the last book I featured in Part one, The Return Man. It's another zombie series. Now I'll be honest, I only 3 starred book one and haven't read more of it yet. But I wanna give this series another chance. I have the feeling I just wasn't really feeling zombie novels when I originally read it and might enjoy it more now. But all the books in this series are highly rated on Goodreads (4-5 Stars) so its a good zombie series for October. Maybe I'll give it another try this month??
The Gone With The Respiration Series by Lia Habel:
Another zombie series. But this one is different. It's set in a futuristic world. The world itself is a steampunk Victorian setting. A little sci-fi thrown in here and there. In this world, some of the dead are not bad. Science has made it where some of them don't loose their higher functioning. I just thought this was just such an interesting mix of genre's and concepts thrown into one book. And it worked!
This Is Not A Test by Courtney Summers:
Another zombie book. Yes. I know. This one revolves around 6 teens taking shelter in their high school pretty much hiding away from those who have turned. And throughout the process, we also see main character Sloane come to terms with whether she wants to live or die. And the take on how the zombies acted was also different than they are portrayed in most books, so I thought seeing them act differently made this book a great read compared to other zombie novels.
